Horse Name Generator

Most horses end up with two names: a short barn name used every day in the stable (Rio, Cash, Willow, Dusty) and a longer show or registered name used on paper and in the ring (Copper Penny, Irish Mist, Midnight Sun). Barn names are almost always one or two syllables, easy to call across a field and often chosen after the horse arrives, once you know whether it is a bold Bandit or a gentle Honey. Coat colour drives a huge share of horse names. Chestnuts and sorrels get Copper, Penny, Cinnamon, Rusty and Ginger; palominos get Goldie, Sundance, Butterscotch and Champagne; greys get Sterling, Smokey, Misty and Ghost; blacks get Onyx, Raven, Jet and Midnight; paints and pintos get Patches, Domino, Oreo and Splash. Markings matter too — Blaze, Star, Socks and Stripe are named for the white on the face and legs. After colour, the biggest sources are Western place names and cowboy culture (Dakota, Cheyenne, Laredo, Maverick, Wrangler), classical and Norse mythology (Apollo, Athena, Freya, Thor), spirits and drinks (Whiskey, Baileys, Guinness) and simple human names (Charlie, Molly, Gus).
