A good vampire name usually pairs a first name that was fashionable when the character was mortal with a surname that signals lineage: a noble particle (von, de, van), an old landed family (Ravenscroft, Ashcroft, Whitlock), or a Latin house name for night and blood (Noctis, Sanguis, Tenebris). Titles such as Count, Countess, or Baron help when the vampire is centuries old and does not hide it. Names ending in -ian, -ius, -elle, and -ina (Lucian, Cassius, Isabelle, Seraphina) carry the right liquid, unhurried sound.
