Privacy Policy

What is collected when you use this site, how advertising and analytics cookies work here, and the choices you have.

Who We Are

Name Generator Central (namegeneratorcentral.com) is a free website of name generators, operated by Click Clack Labs LLC, a company based in the United States ("we", "us"). Where data protection law uses the term, we are the data controller for this site. There are no accounts, and we never collect your name, email address or payment details. A name or a word you type into a generator stays in your browser. This policy explains what information is still collected when you visit, mostly by the analytics and advertising services we use, and the choices you have.

Information Collected When You Visit

We do not ask you for personal information. However, like almost every website, some information is collected automatically by us and by the third-party services described below:

  • Device and browser information (browser type, operating system, screen size, language)
  • Your IP address, which is used to estimate your general location (country or city) and to protect the site from abuse
  • Usage information, such as the pages you view, the generators you use, searches you make on the site and the page that referred you
  • Cookie identifiers and similar online identifiers set by Google Analytics and by our advertising partners

Some of this information, such as IP addresses and cookie identifiers, is treated as personal data under laws like the GDPR and the CCPA even though it does not tell us who you are.

Names You Save

Names you save, the generators you viewed recently, the names already shown to you in the current tab and your display and tool preferences are stored in your own browser using local and session storage. They never leave your device and we cannot see them. You can remove saved names on the Saved page, or remove everything by clearing your browser's site data.

Our tools, such as the name tracing worksheet generator, work entirely in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to us and is not stored. Their fonts are served from this site.

Advertising

This site is free because it is supported by advertising. Our ads are managed by Mediavine, which works with Google and other advertising partners. The section below is Mediavine's own description of how that advertising uses cookies and data. We do not collect email addresses, so the "hashed email" item in the list does not apply to anything you do on this site.

Mediavine Programmatic Advertising (Ver 1.1)

The Website works with Mediavine to manage third-party interest-based advertising appearing on the Website. Mediavine serves content and advertisements when you visit the Website, which may use first and third-party cookies. A cookie is a small text file which is sent to your computer or mobile device (referred to in this policy as a “device”) by the web server so that a website can remember some information about your browsing activity on the Website.

First party cookies are created by the website that you are visiting. A third-party cookie is frequently used in behavioral advertising and analytics and is created by a domain other than the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies, tags, pixels, beacons and other similar technologies (collectively, “Tags”) may be placed on the Website to monitor interaction with advertising content and to target and optimize advertising. Each internet browser has functionality so that you can block both first and third-party cookies and clear your browser’s cache. The "help" feature of the menu bar on most browsers will tell you how to stop accepting new cookies, how to receive notification of new cookies, how to disable existing cookies and how to clear your browser’s cache. For more information about cookies and how to disable them, you can consult the information at All About Cookies.

Without cookies you may not be able to take full advantage of the Website content and features. Please note that rejecting cookies does not mean that you will no longer see ads when you visit our Site. In the event you opt-out, you will still see non-personalized advertisements on the Website.

The Website collects the following data using a cookie when serving personalized ads:

  • IP Address
  • Operating System type
  • Operating System version
  • Device Type
  • Language of the website
  • Web browser type
  • Email (in hashed form)

Mediavine Partners (companies listed below with whom Mediavine shares data) may also use this data to link to other end user information the partner has independently collected to deliver targeted advertisements. Mediavine Partners may also separately collect data about end users from other sources, such as advertising IDs or pixels, and link that data to data collected from Mediavine publishers in order to provide interest-based advertising across your online experience, including devices, browsers and apps. This data includes usage data, cookie information, device information, information about interactions between users and advertisements and websites, geolocation data, traffic data, and information about a visitor’s referral source to a particular website. Mediavine Partners may also create unique IDs to create audience segments, which are used to provide targeted advertising.

If you would like more information about this practice and to know your choices to opt-in or opt-out of this data collection, please visit National Advertising Initiative opt out page. You may also visit Digital Advertising Alliance website and Network Advertising Initiative website to learn more information about interest-based advertising. You may download the AppChoices app at Digital Advertising Alliance’s AppChoices app to opt out in connection with mobile apps, or use the platform controls on your mobile device to opt out.

For specific information about Mediavine Partners, the data each collects and their data collection and privacy policies, please visit Mediavine Partners.

To manage ads during your visit, the advertising provider also keeps a short-lived record in your browser's local storage, such as the site that referred you, campaign tags and how many pages you have viewed, and may set a cookie used to balance load between its servers.

The advertising provider's code also loads Grow, a service run by Mediavine (its scripts come from grow.me). Grow may set cookies or use your browser's local storage to recognize a returning browser and to measure visits. If Grow shows a feature that asks for an email address, using it is optional and Grow's own terms apply to it; Mediavine publishes them, with its privacy information for Grow, in its Legal and Privacy Center.

A small number of pages on this site carry no advertising at all because of their subject matter. On those pages the advertising code described in this section is not loaded.

Google advertising cookies

Google is one of the partners that may serve ads here. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google at Google Ads Settings, and learn more at How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which generators are popular and how the site performs. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects the device, usage and approximate location information described above. We use it to look at overall patterns and do not try to identify individual visitors. You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google Analytics runs in a restricted mode unless you consent: it sets no cookies and sends only limited, cookieless signals (for example, that a page was viewed), which Google uses for aggregate modelling rather than to recognise you.

Cookies and Your Consent

Cookies and similar technologies are used on this site for:

  • Analytics: measuring visits and usage (Google Analytics)
  • Advertising: showing, limiting the repetition of, and measuring ads, and, where permitted, personalizing them (Mediavine and its advertising partners, including Google)
  • Security: our hosting and network providers may set strictly necessary cookies to block malicious traffic

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are switched off by default. When advertising is running on the site, a consent message from our advertising provider appears on your first visit and asks for your choice; until you answer it, or if it is not shown, those cookies stay off. Once you have made a choice you can change or withdraw it at any time using the privacy settings link that the consent tool adds at the bottom of the page. Wherever you are, you can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the generators will keep working.

Other Service Providers

The site is delivered through hosting and content delivery providers (currently Vercel and Cloudflare). They process IP addresses and request logs on our behalf in order to serve pages quickly and keep the site secure. We do not run our own database of visitor information.

How Information Is Used

  • To operate, secure and improve the site and its generators
  • To understand which content is useful and what to build next
  • To show advertising that keeps the site free, and to measure its performance

For visitors covered by the GDPR or UK GDPR, the legal basis for analytics and advertising cookies is your consent, and the legal basis for security and basic site delivery is our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website. Mediavine, Google and other providers may process information in the United States and other countries, using safeguards such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses. Retention of analytics and advertising data is controlled by those providers; user-level and event-level data in our Google Analytics property is kept for no longer than 14 months.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data, to object to or restrict its use, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Because we do not hold information that identifies you by name, the most effective controls are the consent message, the opt-out links above and your browser's cookie settings, but you can always email us and we will help where we can. We aim to reply within 30 days.

U.S. State Privacy Rights

This section applies to residents of California and of other U.S. states with similar privacy laws. In the past 12 months the following categories of personal information have been collected through this site, all of them automatically and none of them directly from you:

  • Identifiers: IP address, cookie identifiers and similar online identifiers
  • Internet or other network activity: pages viewed, generators used, on-site searches, referring page and interactions with ads
  • Approximate location, estimated from your IP address (country, region or city)

These are disclosed to our analytics, hosting and security providers so that they can provide their services to us, and to our advertising partners for advertising. We do not sell personal information for money. However, letting advertising partners use cookies to show you personalized ads may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or as "targeted advertising", under some state laws. We do not collect sensitive personal information, and we do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16.

Opting out. When advertising is running, visitors in states where these laws apply are shown a "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link at the bottom of the page, which opens the opt-out tool. You can also use the opt-out links in the Advertising section. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, our own Google tags treat it as an opt-out and are told not to use your visit for ad personalization. Ads are served through our advertising provider's own systems, so to opt out of personalized ads as well, please also use the link or tools described above.

Other requests. You may ask to know what personal information has been collected about you, to have it deleted or to have it corrected, by emailing [email protected]. Tell us which state you live in and what you are asking for. Because we have no accounts and cannot connect a name or email address to a visitor, we may ask for the cookie identifier from your browser so that we can pass your request to the right provider. An authorized agent may make a request for you if they include proof of your permission. We respond within 45 days. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our decision, and we will answer the appeal within 60 days and tell you how to contact your state attorney general if you remain unhappy. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience. Some generators are about games, shows and books that younger people enjoy too, but the site is not aimed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK): there are no accounts, sign-ups or comments, a name or a word typed into a generator stays in your browser and is never sent to us, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will help have it removed.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
