Kentucky Derby Horse Name Generator

Kentucky Derby horses have some of the most memorable names in sport, and almost all of them follow rules set by The Jockey Club, which registers every thoroughbred in North America. A name can be no more than 18 characters including spaces, cannot be the name of a famous horse or a living person without permission, cannot be purely commercial, and must be approved before the horse races. Winners like Rich Strike, Mystik Dan, Mage and American Pharoah show the range: some are swagger, some are private jokes, some are misspellings that stuck.

The names here mix racing slang, Kentucky culture, bourbon and music, along with playful nods to past champions and famous sires. All are 18 characters or fewer, so any of them could in principle be registered for a real foal.
