D&D Tiefling Name Generator

Tieflings in D&D 5e have three distinct naming traditions, and knowing which one your character uses says a lot about their upbringing. The first is Infernal: names derived from the language of the Nine Hells such as Akmenos, Damakos, Kairon, Mordai and Skamos for males and Akta, Bryseis, Damaia, Kallista, Nemeia and Orianna for females, all listed in the Player's Handbook. They favour k, s, th and open vowels and often end in -os, -ai or -ia.

The second tradition is the virtue name. Some young tieflings, the PHB explains, choose a name that signifies a virtue or a concept they hope to embody, and the canonical examples are Art, Carrion, Chant, Creed, Despair, Excellence, Fear, Glory, Hope, Ideal, Music, Nowhere, Open, Poetry, Quest, Random, Reverence, Sorrow, Temerity, Torment and Weary. Note how many of these are bleak or odd; a tiefling named Nowhere or Weary is a walking statement about how the world has treated them.

The third tradition is simply human. Tieflings born to human parents in Baldur's Gate or Neverwinter often carry ordinary names like Adrian Vane or Elena Cross, and Baldur's Gate 3 characters such as Karlach, Zevlor, Rolan and Dammon show how mixed the conventions can be. Pair any given name with a human surname or an Infernal-flavoured epithet and the name is complete.
