Tiefling Name Generator BG3

Baldur's Gate 3 is full of tieflings, and Larian gave them a very particular sound. The Elturel refugees at the Emerald Grove, from Zevlor and Rolan to Karlach, Dammon, Cal, Lia, Arka, Komira, Nadira, Okta, Ikaron and Zorru, mostly have short one- or two-syllable names with crisp consonants and open vowels. They are recognisably not human names, but they are also not the long, harsh Infernal names of older D&D lore. That middle ground is what makes a name feel like it belongs in the Sword Coast of BG3.

The game still draws on the wider 5e conventions, and so can you. The Player's Handbook lists Infernal names such as Akmenos, Damakos, Kairon and Skamos for males and Akta, Bryseis, Damaia, Kallista and Orianna for females, all of which would sit comfortably in Larian's cast. It also describes virtue names, where a tiefling adopts a Common word that reflects a concept they strive for: Temerity, Reverence, Sorrow, Hope, Nowhere, Poetry. Virtue names are increasingly popular for player tieflings because they say something about the character before a line of dialogue is spoken.

Most BG3 tieflings go by a single name, but a surname helps if you are writing fan fiction or building a party. Ordinary Faerunian human family names fit the refugee background, while Infernal-sounding surnames like Kalyth or Zaraveth suit warlocks and characters tied to Zariel and Avernus.
