Fantasy Tiefling Name Generator

Tiefling names in Dungeons & Dragons follow two distinct traditions, and the Player's Handbook spells them out. The first is the Infernal given name: names like Akmenos, Damakos, Kairon and Skamos for men, or Akta, Bryseis, Damaia and Orianna for women. These lean on hard k, th and s sounds with Greek-flavored endings (-os, -is, -eia), which is why the list above also includes classical Greek names such as Deimos, Kalliope and Zosime that slot in seamlessly.

The second tradition is the virtue name. Some tieflings, tired of being judged by their horns and tail, take an ordinary word as their name to announce the ideal they live by: Hope, Reverence, Poetry, Torment, Nowhere. Nothing stops a tiefling from picking a bleak word or an ironic one, and a name like Carrion or Weary says as much about a character as a paragraph of backstory. Baldur's Gate 3 characters such as Karlach, Zevlor and Rolan show a third option: names that simply sound a little exotic without being overtly devilish.

Many tieflings also carry a human surname from the family that raised them, or a self-chosen surname with an Infernal ring, which is why paired names like Damaia Kethra or Skamos Bloodhorn appear here alongside single names.
