Strix Name Generator

Strix names come from two very different sources. In Pathfinder, the strix are the black-winged itarii of Devil's Perch in Cheliax, a people who have fought human settlers for centuries from the Screeching Spire of Ciricskree. Their language is built for calling across cliffs, so their names are short, hard and full of k, z, sh and rolled-r sounds: Ikthak, Zeshka, Kreshik, Tzarek. Many strix add an epithet earned in life rather than a family name (Peakborn, Eggwarden, the Unfledged), which is why a full strix name often reads like Kirrik of the Spire or Vhessa Nightfledged.

The older strix is Roman. In Ovid's Fasti and Pliny's Natural History the strix or striga is a screeching night bird that slips through windows to drink the blood of infants, and the goddess Carna wards it off with hawthorn. The word survives in Italian strega, Romanian strigoi and Albanian shtriga, so a folklore strix suits dark Latin names such as Nocturna, Cruenta, Stridula or Striga Noctis, and kenning-style epithets like Cradle Reaper or Milkthief.
