Fetchling Name Generator

Fetchlings, called Kayal in Pathfinder Second Edition, are the descendants of humans who fled to the Shadow Plane (the Netherworld) and were changed by generations in its half-light. Their names reflect that history. Official examples such as Cassaia, Dartha, Fenna, Ivalia, Kadan, Kelvis, Melina, Nazira, Selya, Serina, and Vasar sound like human names that have been softened and worn down, full of gentle consonants and open vowels. Older Pathfinder material adds names like Draymon, Karan, Vasarion, Zaric, Aisha, Anira, and Talini.

Because fetchling communities often live alongside surface cultures, or in shadow reflections of real cities such as Shadow Absalom, many Kayal simply carry the names of the peoples they were born among. Eastern European style names (Nikolai, Sabina, Katya, Sorin) are common in canon because of the Ustalav and Nidal connection. Some fetchlings instead go by a word that describes their nature, such as Vesper, Rime, Hush, or Sliver, and epithets like 'of the Long Dusk' or 'Two-Shadows' mark those with a reputation in the umbral courts.

Surnames are optional. When used, they tend to be muted rather than menacing: Greyveil, Coldwell, Marrowick, Duskmantle. A good fetchling name feels quiet and slightly detached, like a voice from the next room, rather than loudly sinister.
