LOTRO Name Generator

The Lord of the Rings Online has a naming policy most MMOs do not: names must be 'consistent with the lore of Middle-earth,' and the names of Tolkien's own characters are reserved, so you cannot play as Legolas or Thorin. Names are also unique per server, and the obvious ones (Eowyn with one letter changed, anything ending in -legolas) were taken years ago. The way to get one that passes the policy and is still free is to build it from the right language for your race.

Elves of Lindon, Rivendell, Lórien and Mirkwood use Sindarin: soft l, r and th, and endings like -ion, -dir, -wen, -iel, -eth (Celairon, Laerwen, Thurindir). High Elves use Quenya, which sounds more Latin (Calanáro, Lossëwen, Quendil). Men of Rohan use Old English names as Tolkien did (Aldhelm, Leofwyn, Wulfric). Men of Gondor use Sindarin too (Adragil, Baranor). Dwarves take Old Norse names from the Dvergatal, the list Tolkien used for Thorin's company (Skirfir, Hannar, Dargrim). Hobbits want a homely English first name and a Shire family name (Wilibald Goodbody, Melilot Brockhouse), and Bree-landers use plant-derived surnames (Heathertoes, Rushlight, Mugwort). Beornings use bear-flavored Old English (Beornulf, Hildegrim).

Every name here follows those rules and avoids Tolkien's reserved characters, so they should clear the name filter and be free to claim.
