Holy Sword Name Generator

A holy sword is named for what it was sworn to, not for what it does to enemies. That is the main difference from an ordinary magic weapon: Excalibur, Durendal, and Joyeuse carry names of lineage and joy, not of slaughter. Real sacred blades fall into a few families. The paladins of Charlemagne had Durendal, Hauteclere, and Almace, said to hold relics in their hilts. Coronation swords like Curtana, Szczerbiec, and the Sword of Mercy are named for their office. Japan's regalia sword Kusanagi and the shrine blades Futsu-no-Mitama and Ame-no-Habakiri are sacred objects as much as weapons, and Islamic tradition names Zulfiqar and the swords of the Prophet.

Original holy swords tend to borrow one of four voices. Latin and liturgical names (Lux Aeterna, Benediction, Magnificat, Matins) sound like they were forged by a church. Angel-linked names (Uriel's Lantern, Sword of Raziel) tie the blade to a patron. Old English compounds (Dawnbreaker, Oathkeeper, Gloryhilt) fit paladins and knightly orders. Names of virtue or relic (Mercy's Weight, Blade of the Holy Sepulchre, Saint Brannoc's Edge) suggest a history worth writing into the campaign.

Pick the voice that matches the faith in your setting. A sun god's champion wants Sunwake or Sol Invictus; a quiet order of healers wants Clementia or Gentle Judgment.
