Legendary Weapon Name Generator

Legendary weapons in real mythology almost never have flowery names. Excalibur, Durandal, Gungnir, Mjolnir, Kusanagi and Zulfiqar are single words, and most of them are old enough that their literal meanings (Mjolnir is roughly "crusher", Tyrfing may come from a Gothic tribe, Caladbolg means "hard cleft") are half-forgotten. What makes them feel legendary is history: who forged them, who wielded them, and what they cost. Modern game and novel weapons follow the same instinct. Frostmourne, Ashbringer, Longclaw, Sting and the Master Sword are one or two syllables each, and their names describe either what they do or where they came from.

The list above pulls from three traditions. First, real mythic and historical blades from Arthurian, Norse, Celtic, Japanese, Hindu, Chinese, Islamic and Greek sources. Second, iconic video game and fantasy-fiction weapons from Warcraft, D&D, Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Elden Ring, Destiny, Tolkien and A Song of Ice and Fire. Third, original names built on the same rules: a compound of two blunt words (Winterthorn, Voidreaver), a role or oath (Oathkeeper, Lawgiver, Kingslayer), or an epithet with a place or number attached (Spear of Hollow Suns).

For your own item, pick the structure first, then let the backstory justify it. A named weapon with no story is just a stat stick.
