Giant Name Generator

Giants are among the oldest figures in world mythology, and their names carry that weight. Norse jotnar like Ymir, Thrym, Skadi, and Surtr use hard Old Norse consonants and single, punchy names. Greek gigantes such as Alcyoneus, Porphyrion, and Enceladus sound grander and more Latinate. British folklore gives us Cormoran, Blunderbore, and Gogmagog, names that feel half-comic and half-terrifying, which is exactly the tone many storytellers want for a giant.

In Dungeons & Dragons, each giant type has its own flavor. Storm giants (Hekaton, Serissa, Mirran) sound regal and vaguely Greek. Cloud giants (Sansuri, Nimbolo, Zephyros) lean airy and aristocratic, often with a title like Count or Countess. Frost giants (Storvald, Harshnag) go Norse, fire giants (Zalto, Brimskarda) sound forge-hammered, and hill giants (Guh, Moog) are deliberately blunt. Titles matter: Jarl, Thane, Duke, and Chief signal a giant's rank in the ordning.

A good giant name should sound like it takes a full breath to say. Favor open vowels and hard stops, and use an epithet (Ironjaw, Cloudtreader, Nine-Rivers) when you want the name to tell a story about the giant's deeds or domain.
