Cyclopes come in two flavors in Greek myth, and their names reflect it. The Elder Cyclopes, sons of Gaia and Uranus, were master smiths named for the storm they forged for Zeus: Brontes (Thunderer), Steropes (Lightning-Maker) and Arges (Bright One). Later poets added forge-hands like Pyracmon (Fire-Anvil) and Acmonides (Son of the Anvil). The younger cyclopes of the Odyssey were brutish shepherds, and the only one Homer names is Polyphemus (Much-Spoken-Of), son of Poseidon and the nymph Thoosa; Telemus was the seer who warned him about Odysseus, and Nonnus later added Euryalus, Elatreus, Trachius and Halimedes.

The classical convention, then, is a Greek word for a physical trait or craft turned into a name: thunder, lightning, anvil, fire, stone, size, sight. Names like Keraunos (thunderbolt), Sideron (iron), Pelorios (monstrous) or Monophthalmos (one-eyed) follow the same logic and sit comfortably beside the originals.

Fantasy games treat cyclopes as brooding, solitary giants, and their names lean guttural: two hard syllables like Grumnok, Thoruk or Vorgan, plus an epithet describing the eye, the cave, or the trade (Cavemouth, Longstare, Anvilfist, Wall-Builder). Choose the Greek style for mythic or Percy Jackson-adjacent settings and the epithet style for D&D and Pathfinder.
