Frost Giant Name Generator

Frost giants come straight out of Norse mythology, where they are the hrímthursar or rime-thurses, born from the primordial giant Ymir. The sagas and Eddas give us Thrym, who stole Thor's hammer; Hrungnir, killed in a duel; Skadi, the huntress who married Njord; Angrboda, mother of Fenrir; and Bergelmir, who survived the flood of Ymir's blood. Their names are Old Norse, full of hard stops and consonant clusters, and they were often descriptive: Snaer means snow, Jokull glacier, Frosti frost, Drifa snowdrift, and Hrím itself is rime or hoarfrost.

Dungeons & Dragons keeps that flavor. Frost giants in 5e live in a brutal ordning where might rules, so a giant is usually known by a Norse-sounding given name plus a byname earned by strength or cruelty (Storvaldr the Unmelting, Vargr One-Eye) or a compound epithet in the Icebreaker/Frostbeard mold. Jarls, thanes, and skalds add titles. Female frost giants use the same conventions with names like Brynhild, Gudrun, and Yrsa.

For authentic results, favor real Old Norse and Icelandic names, keep them two or three syllables, and only add an epithet when the giant has done something worth remembering.
