DnD Devil Name Generator

Devils in Dungeons & Dragons are the lawful evil fiends of the Nine Hells, and their names follow rules that separate them from the chaotic demons of the Abyss. The canonical names (Asmodeus, Mephistopheles, Dispater, Baalzebul, Levistus, Glasya, Zariel, Bel, Geryon, Titivilus, Hutijin) are smooth and pronounceable, mostly lifted from scripture, Roman myth and medieval grimoires. A devil name should sound like it belongs on a contract: two to four syllables, a Latinate or Semitic ending, no apostrophes and no wet guttural clusters.

The hierarchy matters as much as the phonology. Archdevils and dukes get names with titles and domains (Vethrasque, Warden of the Styx). Pit fiends and war-devils take heavier, harsher names (Gorthaxus, Thraxxia Iron-Wing). Erinyes, once angels, keep a lilting, almost elven sound (Sarethe, Valdrisse). Imps get small, spiteful names (Quillick, Pizzik). Devils operating on the Material Plane often travel under a respectable mortal alias, which is why Lucius Ferrand and Sabine Vautrin appear beside the infernal names.

The goetic kings, dukes and presidents of the Ars Goetia (Paimon, Stolas, Barbatos, Marchosias) are included because they are the real-world source for most D&D devil nobility, and the original names here copy their cadence so a homebrew duke of Dis sits comfortably next to a published one.
