Swordsman Name Generator

Swordsman names carry a lot of information in very few words. Historically, famous swordsmen were known by a given name plus a place, a lineage, or a reputation: Miyamoto Musashi, Sasaki Kojiro, Cyrano de Bergerac, Sir Lancelot du Lac. In fiction the pattern is the same, whether it's Inigo Montoya, Himura Kenshin, or Brienne of Tarth. The name tells you where the fighter comes from and hints at how they fight.

The list above deliberately mixes traditions. Japanese ronin and samurai names use family-name-first order (Takeda Ryunosuke) or a given name plus poetic epithet. Wuxia sword saints borrow Chinese naming with two-character given names and titles like "of the Cold Sword." European entries include Renaissance duelists with Italian, Spanish, and French surnames, chivalric knights and dames, and Norse blade-wielders with patronymics. A final group uses fantasy surnames (Duskrender, Ironvow) that work in any invented setting.

A good swordsman name should be sayable in a challenge. "I am Inigo Montoya" works; a five-word title does not. Epithets earned in battle (One-Eye, the Left-Handed, the Blind Swordsman of Kaien) add texture and can be revealed later as backstory. Pick the culture first, then the sound, then the epithet.
