Religious Order Name Generator

Real religious orders are named in a handful of predictable ways, and borrowing those patterns is what makes an invented one feel like it has a thousand years of history. The most common is a dedication: an order takes the name of a founder or patron saint (Saint Audra of the Orchard), a sacred object (the Holy Lance, the Sealed Book) or an event in its story (the Empty Tomb, the Drowned Saint). The second is a descriptive nickname that outsiders gave and the members eventually adopted, like Grey Penitents, Barefoot Sisters or Black Canons, usually referring to the habit they wear or a vow they keep.

The grammar matters too. Order, Congregation and Society suggest a formal rule approved by a church hierarchy. Brothers, Sisters, Friars and Hermits suggest a smaller, poorer community. Knights, Templars and Sword-Brothers mark a military order that fights for its faith. Latin forms (Ordo Lucis Aeternae, Fratres Silentii) read as ancient and official, while Sangha, Tariqa and Lodge point to Buddhist or Sufi-style traditions.
