Mad Scientist Name Generator

The mad scientist is one of fiction's oldest archetypes, and the names have a recognizable sound. Most start with a title: "Dr.", "Professor", "Herr Doktor" or "Baron". The title does real work, signalling credentials that the character has twisted toward something monstrous. Victor Frankenstein, Henry Jekyll and Dr. Moreau set the template in the 19th century, and German Expressionist film added Caligari, Rotwang and Mabuse, which is why so many later mad scientists have Germanic or Eastern European surnames.

The surname usually carries the menace. Writers reach for hard consonants (Kessler, Krauss, Volkov), words that hint at decay or cutting (Marrow, Sever, Blight, Grimm), or Latin and Greek roots that sound like a diagnosis (Malignus, Vitriol, Nocturne). Comic books pushed this further with descriptive alter egos such as Dr. Doom or Dr. Octopus, where the "surname" is really the character's power or obsession. First names tend to be old-fashioned and slightly grand: Ignatius, Cornelius, Ophelia, Wilhelmina, Erasmus.

The list above mixes all three styles. Use the full "Dr. Firstname Lastname" entries when the character needs to feel like a real person with a real past, and the punchier one-word doctors (Dr. Entropy, Dr. Meltdown) for pulp, comics, cartoons or a boss in a video game.
