Korok Name Generator
Short, leafy names for Zelda's forest spirits
500 Korok names in the style of the Zelda forest spirits, from clipped tree names like Birchi and Aspin to rattly sounds like Tikko and titled finds like Elder Knotwood.
About Korok names
Koroks are the small, leaf-masked forest spirits of the Legend of Zelda series. In The Wind Waker most of them carry a name clipped from a tree: Aldo from alder, Elma from elm, Irch from birch, Linder from linden, Oakin from oak, Olivio from olive, Rown from rowan. Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom keep the habit of short, bright names with Hestu, Chio, Natie and Pepp. The pattern is easy to hear: one to three syllables, soft consonants, often an open vowel at the end, and a root that smells of wood, leaf or seed.
This list follows that pattern. It keeps the familiar names as anchors and builds new ones beside them: clipped tree names such as Birchi, Aspin and Hazlin, tree words borrowed from Latin and Japanese such as Querco and Matsu, seeds and nuts, moss and mushrooms, blossoms and berries, and the rattling, giggling sounds a Korok makes when it is found, such as Tikko and Rattlo. A small share are titled nicknames for elders, scouts and hide-and-seek champions, like Elder Knotwood or Last-One-Found Hushi.
The new names are original inventions in the style of the games, not a cast list. They suit fan characters, pets, plush collections and the small forest folk of a tabletop campaign.
How to choose Korok names
- Start from a tree or plant you like, then clip it or soften its ending: birch becomes Birchi and hazel becomes Hazlin, which is how the Wind Waker names work.
- Keep it to two syllables where you can. Pimo, Nelu and Zepp sound right beside Hestu and Makar, while four syllables start to sound like a Hylian noble.
- Say it in a squeaky voice. If it is fun to shout right after "Ya-ha-ha!", it fits.
- For a whole group of Koroks, pick from one family of roots, all seeds or all mosses, so the set feels like it grew in the same grove.
- Save titled names such as Stumpkeeper Loggo or Scout Sprig for elders and quest givers, and leave the hidden ones plain.
Frequently asked questions
How are Korok names formed in the Zelda games?
Most Wind Waker Koroks are named after a tree with a letter or syllable changed: Aldo for alder, Elma for elm, Irch for birch, Linder for linden, Oakin for oak and Rown for rowan. Later games keep the names short and bright, as with Hestu, Chio and Pepp. This list uses the same recipe with a wider set of plants, seeds and forest sounds.
Are these official Korok names?
A small share are names players will know from the games, such as Hestu, Makar and Oakin, kept as anchors for the style. The rest, like Birchi, Querco, Mossby and Tikko, are original names written to sound like them. Treat the new names as fan inventions, not as characters from any game.
What can I use a Korok name for?
They work for fan fiction and fan art characters, a Korok-themed pet or plush, a username, or small forest folk in a tabletop campaign. Short names such as Pimo, Nubb and Zepp fit a tiny pet well. Titled ones such as Elder Knotwood or Granny Catkin suit a story's quest giver.
Are there male and female Korok names?
The names themselves give little away, and nothing in their pattern sorts them by gender. Names ending in a, such as Elma, Fronda and Clova, read a touch softer, and names ending in a hard sound, such as Pepp, Konk and Burr, read a touch gruffer. Pick by sound and by the plant behind the name.
