About khuzait names
The Khuzait Khanate is Bannerlord's steppe faction, modelled on the Mongol and Turkic horse peoples of the Eurasian grasslands, and its names follow that sound. Canon Khuzait lords and ladies (Monchug, Urkhun, Hurunag, Tulag, Mesui) are short, two or three syllables, built from open vowels and hard consonant clusters: kh, gh, ch, ng and a final -ug, -ag, -un, -ai or -ui. Women's names lean toward softer endings (Mesui, Altani, Gerel, Saran), men's toward closed ones (Batuhan, Khasar, Tengis). The Warband-era Khergit names (Sanjar, Dundush, Tonju, Nasugei) belong to the same tradition and still fit, since the Khergit survive as a Khuzait clan.
Real steppe history is the deepest well. Medieval Mongol names such as Subutai, Jelme, Borte and Sorkhaqtani, and Turkic ones like Tughril and Bilge, read as instantly Khuzait, while modern Mongolian names (Ganbaatar, Sarantuya, Tsetseg) add variety without breaking the tone. Khuzait characters in-game also carry epithets earned on the steppe, so a name like Tulga Wolfskin or Ochir Horsebreaker is lore-friendly, as is a clan tag such as Chagan of the Khergit. Titles like Khan, Noyan, Bagatur, Mergen and Khatun can be added for rulers, nobles and champions.
Tips for choosing a name
- Keep given names to two or three syllables and end them with -ug, -un, -ai, -ei or -ui to match the canon Khuzait lords.
- Use the six Khuzait clans (Khergit, Arkit, Baltakhand, Karakhergit, Kuzait, Urkhunait) as surnames in the form Name of the Clan for a character who has sworn to one of them.
- Earned epithets suit wanderers and companions better than nobles: Ulagan the Ranger works for a mercenary, while a khan is simply Monchug Khan.
- Add a title to mark rank: Khan or Khagan for the ruler, Noyan for a lord, Bagatur for a warrior champion, Khatun for a noblewoman, Mergen for a great archer.
- If you play a Khuzait clan founder, name your character and your heirs in the same style so the family tree in the encyclopedia reads as one lineage.

What culture are the Khuzait based on?
The Khuzait draw on the Mongol Empire and the Turkic khanates of the medieval steppe: horse archers, yurt camps, khans and noyans. Their towns (Makeb, Ortongard, Chaikand, Akkalat, Baltakhand) and their lords' names follow Mongol and Turkic sound patterns, which is why names from Mongolian history fit so well.
Who are the main Khuzait characters in Bannerlord?
Monchug is Khan of the Khuzait at the start of the game, with his clan the Khergit. Other notable nobles include Mesui, Urkhun, Hurunag and Tulag, and the khanate is made up of the Khergit, Arkit, Baltakhand, Karakhergit, Kuzait and Urkhunait clans.
Are Khuzait and Khergit the same?
Not quite. The Khergit are a Khuzait clan in Bannerlord, and centuries later in Warband the Khergit Khanate is the steppe faction in its own right. Names from either game work for both, so Warband favourites like Sanjar or Tirida are fine for a Bannerlord character.
