Generate Blade and Soul character names by race: plain Jin names like Hajin and Taeryun, heavy Gon names like Dolsoe and Bulgom, cute Lyn names like Dubu and Poyoran, elegant Yun names like Maehwa and Soyeran, plus Hongmoon-style full names and martial titles.

About Blade and Soul names

Blade and Soul is NCSoft's Korean martial arts MMO, and its names follow the world it borrows from: wuxia stories retold with Korean sounds. The localized NPC names are mostly one closed-up word of two or three syllables, such as Jinsoyun, Mushin, Yura, Hajoon, Dochun, Iksanun and Poharan, sometimes with a short family syllable in front, as in Hong Sokyun or Mak Sobo.

The list is organized around the four playable races. Jin names are the plainest and most human (Hajin, Taeryun, Soyoon). Gon names are heavy, built on sounds that suggest stone, iron and bears (Dolsoe, Bulgom, Tak Bulsoe). Lyn names are small and playful, many of them taken from Korean words for snacks, fruit and little animals (Dubu, Hodu, Poyoran). Yun names are elegant and feminine, since the Yun are an all-female race, and lean on flowers, the moon and jade (Maehwa, Wolhyang, Soyeran).

Two smaller groups round it out: family-and-given names in the manner of the Hongmoon school (Hong Daryun, Yun Sehwa, Brother Gilsoo) and English martial titles for a character known by reputation (Cerulean Swallow, Thousand-Pound Axe). Spellings follow the game's loose, older style of romanization (Hajoon, not Hajun) and not the modern standard.

How to choose Blade and Soul names

  • Pick by race first. A Gon called Poyo or a Lyn called Dolsoe can be a good joke, but most players want the weight of the name to match the size of the body.
  • If the name field will not take a space, close a two-part name up: Ma Sojin becomes Masojin, which matches the game's own one-word style.
  • Use a title as a second identity for roleplay or a clan roster. Storm Drum Destroyer, River Pearl Summoner and Black Lotus Assassin each name a class without repeating the character's given name.
  • Short names are the first to go on a busy server, and this page cannot tell you what is taken. Note two or three alternates before you reach character creation.
  • Say the name once as a quest giver would. Two or three clear syllables, such as Haryun or Dogum, are easy for party members to type and remember.

Frequently asked questions

What do Blade and Soul names sound like?

Most are short Korean-rooted names written as one word, like the NPCs Jinsoyun, Mushin, Yura and Poharan. Some add a one-syllable family name in front, as in Hong Sokyun. The list keeps to that shape with names such as Hajin, Junghwa, Yunhwa and Hong Daryun.

How do names differ between Jin, Gon, Lyn and Yun?

The game sets no naming rule by race, so the split here is one of tone. Jin names are everyday Korean names (Chulmin, Sunhwa), Gon names are blunt and heavy (Mangdol, Geobuk), Lyn names are cute and often come from food or animals (Mandu, Toki), and Yun names are graceful and feminine (Seolhwa, Myungwol).

Are these names taken from the game?

No. NPC names such as Jinsoyun, Mushin and Poharan appear in the text on this page only as reference points for the style. The list itself is written in that style for players' own characters and is not a roster of NPCs.

Do these names work for Blade and Soul NEO?

Yes. NEO is set in the same world with the same four races, so a name that suits a Jin, Gon, Lyn or Yun in the original game suits one there too. Whether a given name is still free depends on your server, so keep a backup or two.
