Ifrit Name Generator

The ifrit (Arabic 'ifrit, plural 'afarit) is the most powerful and dangerous class of jinn in Arabian tradition, mentioned once in the Qur'an as the spirit who offers to bring the Queen of Sheba's throne to Solomon before he can rise from his seat. Later folklore made them beings of fire and smoke who live underground, marry among themselves, and hold grudges for centuries; in the Arabian Nights an ifrit imprisoned in a brass bottle swears to kill whoever frees him. Dungeons & Dragons borrowed the word as efreet (plural efreeti), rulers of the City of Brass on the Elemental Plane of Fire, and Final Fantasy made Ifrit its standard fire summon.

Good ifrit names lean on real Arabic and Persian vocabulary for heat: lahib (flame), jamra (ember), wahaj (blaze), ramad (ash), dukhan (smoke), sa'iqa (thunderbolt), jahim (blazing fire), and Persian atash and azar (fire). Because the tales give jinn ordinary human names as well, a plain Arabic name like Sakhr or Kadim works too, especially with a kunya or nisba attached: Umm al-Jamr (Mother of Embers), Sakhr al-Nar (Sakhr of the Fire).

For D&D efreeti, the convention is a name plus a court title (Pasha, Vizier, Emir, Sultan), which the list also covers. Female forms typically add -a: Lahiba, Zahira, Ifrita.
