Norse mythology names cover far more than the gods. Two habits give Norse mythological names their sound. First, epithets: gods and heroes are known by descriptive bynames, sometimes as patronymics (Loki Laufeyjarson, Nanna Nepsdóttir), sometimes as deeds or traits (Ívarr the Boneless, Sigurðr Snake-in-the-Eye, Höðr the Blind). Second, transparent compounds: many names are literally readable, as in Ginnungagap (yawning void), Fimbulvetr (great winter), Brísingamen (necklace of the Brísings), and Gjallarhorn (yelling horn). Knowing this, you can coin a name like Járnviðr (Iron-wood) or Þrúðheimr (Strength-home) that sits comfortably alongside the real ones.

Use the god and hero names for characters, the realm and hall names for locations, and the artifact names for weapons, ships, and quests.
