Frost Mage Name Generator

Frost mage names work best when they sound cold before they mean anything. Hard consonants and long, thin vowels do most of the work: Ysolde, Kaelthir, Skarnvald, Isryn. That is why so many ice casters in games and fiction borrow from Scandinavian, Icelandic and Slavic naming (Sigurd, Brynja, Kazimir, Svetlana), the real languages of places where winter is serious, and why elven cryomancers get airy, sibilant names like Syrithe or Thalorien. A warm, round name like Bobo or Mabel will never read as a frost mage no matter what surname you attach.

The surname or epithet is where the specialty shows. Good frost surnames draw on the whole vocabulary of cold rather than just "frost" and "ice": rime, hoar, sleet, hail, glacier, permafrost, blizzard, north, white. Pair a cold noun with a concrete second element (mantle, caller, weave, cairn, lantern, quill) and you get surnames like Rimecaller, Glacierheart and Hoarwind that feel lived-in. Translated surnames from real languages are another strong option: Morozov (Russian, frost), Isberg (Swedish, ice mountain), Sneachta (Irish, snow).
