Generate female Saiyan names that follow Dragon Ball's vegetable-pun rule the way Caulifla, Kale, Gine and Fasha do: short, punchy names built from real vegetables and disguised just enough to sound alien. Made for Dragon Ball OCs, fan fiction, Xenoverse and roleplay.
About female saiyan names
Every Saiyan in Dragon Ball is named after a vegetable, and the female Saiyans are no exception. Caulifla is cauliflower, Kale is kale, Kefla is their fusion, Gine (Goku's mother) is a play on negi, the Japanese word for green onion, and Fasha, also called Seripa in Japanese, comes from a scrambled parsley. Bulla, Pan and Videl aren't Saiyan-named because they take after their non-Saiyan parents' themes, which is a useful reminder that half-Saiyan characters can follow either family convention.
Akira Toriyama's trick is disguise. He takes a vegetable, drops or swaps a syllable, and sometimes reads it backwards or through Japanese pronunciation, so Kakarot comes from carrot and Nappa from Chinese cabbage. Female names in the franchise tend to end in a vowel or a soft consonant (Caulifla, Kale, Gine, Fasha), which is why an OC called Radisha or Salsifa lands better than one called Radish. The Japanese vegetable route works too: Ninjin (carrot), Daikon (radish), Kabu (turnip), Horenso (spinach) and Renkon (lotus root) all sound like they were born on Planet Vegeta.
The list above pairs the canon Saiyan women with original names drawn from real vegetables, greens, roots, beans, squashes, peppers, grains and Japanese produce, bent just enough to feel like Universe 6 or 7 warriors.
Tips for choosing a name
- Pick a vegetable that hasn't been used in canon (rutabaga, chicory, kohlrabi, jicama, chayote) and shorten it to two or three syllables.
- Give the name a soft ending if you want it to read feminine in-universe: Radisha, Turnia, Salsifa, Kalea. Toriyama's own female Saiyans all end on a vowel sound.
- Try the Japanese word for the vegetable; Ninjin, Kabu, Negi and Renkon sound alien to English readers and are exactly how Gine's name works.
- For a half-Saiyan, decide whether she takes the vegetable theme (Pan doesn't; Bulla doesn't) or her other parent's theme, and be consistent across siblings.
- Keep it shoutable. A Saiyan name will be yelled mid-battle, so avoid anything over three syllables or with tricky consonant clusters.
Frequently asked questions
What are the canon female Saiyan names?
Caulifla, Kale and their fusion Kefla from Universe 6; Gine (Goku's mother) and Fasha, called Seripa in Japanese, from Bardock's squad in Universe 7. Half-Saiyans Bulla and Pan follow their other parent's naming theme instead.
Do female Saiyan names have to be vegetables?
Full-blooded Saiyans in canon always are, so most fans keep the rule. Half-Saiyans can follow their other parent's theme, the way Bulla is underwear-themed like Bulma and Pan is bread-themed like Gohan.
How does Toriyama disguise the vegetable?
He drops a syllable, swaps a letter or reads the word through Japanese pronunciation: Kakarot from carrot, Nappa from nappa cabbage, Gine from negi. Apply the same to your own vegetable and the pun stays hidden until someone looks.
Can I use these names in fan fiction or Xenoverse?
Yes. The original names here are free to use for OCs in fan fiction, roleplay, Xenoverse or Kakarot; canon Saiyans belong to the franchise and suit fan works only.
