Dragon Ball Saiyan Name Generator

Every Saiyan in Dragon Ball is named after a vegetable, and Akira Toriyama disguised the pun just enough that most viewers never notice. Kakarot is carrot, Vegeta is vegetable, Raditz is radish, Nappa is a Japanese word for leafy greens, Bardock is burdock, Gine comes from negi (spring onion), Broly is broccoli, Paragus is asparagus, Tarble is vegetable with the front cut off, and Turles is lettuce with its letters scrambled. Bardock's squad continues the joke: Tora (tomato), Fasha (parsley, in Japanese Selypa), Borgos (gobo, burdock) and Shugesh (spinach). Universe 6 Saiyans keep the theme with leafy vegetables: Cabba (cabbage), Caulifla (cauliflower), Kale and Renso (lettuce, in Japanese lettuce again reversed).

A good original Saiyan name therefore starts with a vegetable, herb or legume that has not been used, then twists it into a name that sounds like a warrior. Drop a syllable (Parsnak from parsnip), swap a vowel (Endiva from endive), reverse it (Turles), or borrow the Japanese word (Nasu for eggplant, Daikon, Kabocha, Gobo). Two or three syllables is the norm; Saiyans bark their names in battle and nothing longer than Kakarot has ever stuck. There are no family surnames, though royals take a title (King Vegeta, Prince Vegeta) and half-Saiyans raised on Earth get Earth-style names like Gohan and Trunks.
