Generate Saiyan names that follow Akira Toriyama's real rule: every Saiyan is a twisted vegetable pun, from Kakarot (carrot) and Vegeta (vegetable) to Raditz (radish) and Broly (broccoli). Includes canon Saiyans plus 500 original names for Dragon Ball OCs, Xenoverse characters, and fan fiction.
About super saiyan names
Akira Toriyama named every Saiyan after a vegetable, and he almost never used the vegetable straight. Kakarot is carrot, Vegeta is vegetable, Raditz is radish, Nappa is cabbage in Japanese, Broly is broccoli, Bardock is burdock, Gine is negi (spring onion), Paragus is asparagus, Cabba is cabbage again, and Caulifla and Kale are cauliflower and kale. Turles is an anagram of lettuce, Tarble completes vegetable alongside Vegeta, and Fasha is a mangled parsley. The joke works because the name is warped just enough to sound like a warrior's name first and a salad second.
That is the standard to hit when inventing a Saiyan for a Dragon Ball OC, a Xenoverse or Kakarot save, or fan fiction. Take a vegetable, root, herb, or legume, then clip a syllable, swap a vowel, or spell it phonetically until it stops looking like a grocery list. Kohlrabi becomes Kohlrab, zucchini becomes Zukini, chickpea becomes Chikpi. Japanese vegetable words (nasu, kyuri, ninjin, gobo, renkon) are a rich second source that most English-speaking fans overlook and that fits the series' original language.
Rank and lineage matter too. Elites like Vegeta and Nappa got clean, punchy names; low-class warriors like Bardock's squad got rougher, longer ones. Fusions blend both parents' names (Gogeta, Vegito, Kefla, Gotenks) rather than inventing a third vegetable.
Tips for choosing a name
- Start from a real vegetable and distort it until it reads as a name first; Kakarot, not Carrot, and Zukini, not Zucchini.
- Mine Japanese vegetable words (nasu, kyuri, negi, gobo, kabocha) for names that sound authentic and won't collide with the usual carrot and cabbage puns.
- For a fusion character, splice the two source names the way Gogeta and Kefla do rather than picking a new vegetable.
- Match name texture to class: short and hard for elites (Nappa, Broly), longer or sillier for low-class fighters (Panbukin, Shugesh).
- Check the wiki before committing; the fan community will notice if your OC shares a name with a minor canon Saiyan.
Frequently asked questions
Why are Saiyan names based on vegetables?
Akira Toriyama gave each Dragon Ball race a naming theme, and Saiyans got vegetables: Kakarot from carrot, Vegeta from vegetable, Raditz from radish, Broly from broccoli. Saiya itself is a rearrangement of yasai, the Japanese word for vegetable.
How do I make an original Saiyan name that sounds canon?
Choose a vegetable, herb, root, or legume, then clip, respell, or anagram it so it reads as a warrior's name. Turles is an anagram of lettuce and Fasha is a corrupted parsley, so both light distortion and heavy distortion are on-model.
Are Super Saiyan names different from regular Saiyan names?
No. Super Saiyan is a transformation, not a naming category, so Goku stays Goku in every form. The name generator gives you Saiyan character names that work at every power level, from base form to Ultra Instinct.
Can I use these names for a Dragon Ball Xenoverse or fan character?
Yes. Original names here are free for game characters, OCs, RPG campaigns, and fan fiction. Canon names like Goku, Vegeta, and Broly are owned by Bird Studio and Toei and should not be used commercially.
