Fallout Name Generator

Fallout's world froze culturally in a 1950s that never ended, then got nuked, so its names come in two layers. Underneath is mid-century America: vault dwellers and settlers carry names like Butch DeLoria, Amata Almodovar, Moira Brown, and Preston Garvey - plain, slightly old-fashioned given names with a mix of Anglo, Hispanic, Slavic, and Italian surnames that reflects a pre-War melting pot. Wendell, Dolores, Merle, and Loretta all sound right in a vault; Jaxon and Kayleigh do not.

On top of that sits the wasteland, where two hundred years of ruin have worn names down. Ghouls and raiders go by handles that describe a scar, a weapon, or a habit - Bobbi No-Nose, Cutthroat, Two-Fingers, Sinjin - or single blunt nouns like Slag, Wrench, and Roach. Factions add their own grammar: the Brotherhood of Steel uses rank plus surname (Paladin Danse, Scribe Haylen, Elder Maxson), Caesar's Legion adopts Latin titles and cognomens (Vulpes Inculta, Legate Lanius), the NCR uses ordinary military ranks, and vaults have Overseers. Player characters are known by epithets - the Vault Dweller, the Chosen One, the Lone Wanderer, Courier Six, the Sole Survivor - which is a useful trick when your character's real name doesn't matter.
