Raider Name Generator

Raider names come from two very different traditions. In the historical sense, raiders are Viking crews, steppe horsemen, and border reivers, and their names are personal names with an earned epithet: Ivar the Boneless, Halfdan Ragnarsson, Ulf the Unwashed. The epithet describes something physical, something they did, or something people feared about them. In the modern post-apocalyptic sense popularised by Mad Max, Fallout, Borderlands, and Rage, raiders are scavenger gangs whose names are built from junk, injury, and machinery: Nux, Rictus Erectus, the Bullet Farmer, Slag, Boss Hogtie, and the raider chiefs of Nuka-World.

Good wasteland names follow the logic of a gang. Nobody chooses to be called Scab; someone gave them that name and it stuck. So the best names are short, ugly, and specific: car parts (Piston, Gasket, Lugnut), diseases (Pox, Blister, Fester), tools used as weapons (Nail Bat, Pipe Wrench, Bonesaw), scavenger animals (Buzzard, Hyena, Bin Rat), and physical tells (One Eye, Snaggletooth, Twitch). Leaders take mock titles that parody the old world: Overboss, Deacon, Duke of Scrap, Ma Cauldron.

Use the shorter nicknames for rank-and-file gang members and save the epithet names and titled bosses for characters your players or readers will actually remember.
