D&D Demon Name Generator

Demons in Dungeons & Dragons are creatures of the Abyss, and their names sound like it. Where devils of the Nine Hells carry ordered, Latinate names (Asmodeus, Mephistopheles, Dispater), demons are chaotic and guttural: Demogorgon, Orcus, Yeenoghu, Juiblex, Fraz-Urb'luu, Kostchtchie. Abyssal names pile up harsh consonant clusters (zz, kh, gh, thr), favor closed syllables, and often include an apostrophe that marks a glottal stop rather than decoration. Graz'zt and Obox-ob are the canonical models for that style.

Rank matters. Demon lords and princes usually have a single unmistakable name, sometimes with an epithet (Miska the Wolf-Spider, Baphomet the Horned King). Named greater demons in published adventures, like Errtu the balor or Belaphoss, follow suit. Lesser demons, from vrocks and hezrou down to manes, are rarely named at all in the Monster Manual, but a DM who names a marilith general or a glabrezu tempter gives the fight far more weight. Titles that describe the demon's cruelty or domain (Skinweaver, Wailmother, of the Screaming Pit) fit the Abyss better than heroic-sounding ones.

The list starts with canon demon lords and named demons from 5e, 4e, and older editions, then moves into original Abyssal names in three registers: epithet-bearing lords for campaign villains, mid-length names for balors, mariliths, and nalfeshnees, and short, spiky names for the swarms of dretches, quasits, and manes a party will carve through.
