Generate Assassin's Creed names for Brotherhood and Templar characters across the series' settings: Levantine and Abbasid Arabic names, Renaissance Italian, Ottoman, Golden Age pirates, Revolutionary French, Victorian London, Ptolemaic Egypt, ancient Greece, Viking England, feudal Japan and more, mixed with canon characters from Altaïr to Naoe.

About assassin's creed names

Assassin's Creed names are really period names. Every protagonist is a plausible person from a real time and place, so the series leans on authentic naming conventions: Arabic patronymics like Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad and Basim Ibn Ishaq (ibn means 'son of'), Italian place-surnames like Ezio Auditore da Firenze, Norse patronymics like Eivor Varinsdottir, Greek city epithets like Kassandra of Sparta, and Mohawk names like Ratonhnhaké:ton. A good original Assassin or Templar name follows the same rule: pick the era first, then build a name a historian would not flinch at.

This generator mixes canon characters (Altaïr, Ezio, Connor, Edward and Haytham Kenway, Arno, the Frye twins, Bayek, Aya, Kassandra, Eivor, Basim, Naoe, Yasuke, Shay, Aveline, Shao Jun, Arbaaz Mir, Nikolai Orelov) with hundreds of originals written in the same registers: Masyaf-era Arabic, Renaissance Florentine and Venetian, Ottoman Constantinople, Inquisition Spain, colonial Boston, Nassau pirates, Revolutionary Paris, Victorian London, Ptolemaic Egypt, Peloponnesian Greece, Abbasid Baghdad, Viking England, Ming China, Sikh-era India, Tsarist Russia and Sengoku Japan.

Epithets matter too. The Brotherhood uses bird and animal bynames (the Eagle, the Hawk of Masyaf, the Crow, Wolf-Kissed), while Templars tend toward titles and full formal names (Grand Master, Crawford Starrick, Rodrigo Borgia). A second, whispered name makes a character feel like they belong in the Animus.

Tips for choosing a name

  • Decide the game or era before the name: a Victorian Rook (Thaddeus Mercer, Prudence Harlow) and a Ptolemaic Medjay (Khenti of Thebes, Neferu) should not sound like they could swap places.
  • Use the era's real surname logic: 'ibn' or 'bint' plus the father's name for Levantine and Abbasid Assassins, 'da' plus a city for Italians, '-sson' or '-dottir' for Norse, and 'of' plus a city-state for Greeks.
  • Give Assassins an epithet and Templars a rank or title. 'Ilyas ibn Barakat, the Hawk of Acre' reads Brotherhood; 'Grand Master Edmund Thackeray' reads Order of the Ancients.
  • For Templars and Order members, slightly grander, more aristocratic names work (de la Serre, Starrick, Borgia); for Assassins, pick humbler names with a single striking element.
  • Avoid names one letter off from a canon character (Ezzio, Altair Ibn-La'Ahad Jr.); players will read it as a typo, not a tribute.

Frequently asked questions

Does this generator include canon Assassin's Creed names?

Yes. You will find the main protagonists (Altaïr, Ezio, Connor, Edward Kenway, Arno, Jacob and Evie Frye, Bayek, Kassandra, Alexios, Eivor, Basim, Naoe, Yasuke, Shay, Aveline), major Templars and Order members (Haytham Kenway, Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia, Crawford Starrick, Robert de Sablé, Al Mualim) and modern-day characters such as Desmond Miles and Layla Hassan, alongside hundreds of original names.

How do I make an original Assassin name sound authentic?

Copy the structure of the era's canon names. Levantine: given name plus ibn/bint plus father's name (Faris ibn Tariq, Samira bint Yusuf). Renaissance Italy: given name plus a noble or craft surname (Lorenzo Vecchi, Serafina Loredan). Norse: patronymic in -sson/-dottir (Astrid Ingridsdottir). Victorian: plain English given name plus a weighty surname (Josiah Pembroke).

What are good Templar names?

Templar and Order of the Ancients names tend to be formal and titled: Crawford Starrick, François-Thomas Germain, Reginald Birch, Lucy Thorne in canon; originals such as Hadrian Vellacourt, Benedict Holloway, Laureano-style Spanish grandees (Gonzalo de Cárdenas) and Roman-Egyptian officials (Flavius-style names, Demetrios Philon) fit the same mould.

Which settings are covered?

The Third Crusade Levant, Renaissance Italy, Ottoman Constantinople, Inquisition Spain, colonial America, the Caribbean pirate age, Revolutionary France, Victorian London, Ptolemaic Egypt, classical Greece, Abbasid Baghdad, Viking England, Ming China, 19th-century India, Tsarist Russia and Sengoku Japan, matching the main games and spin-offs.
