Wings of Fire Hybrid Name Generator

Every tribe in Wings of Fire names its dragonets from a fixed pool of images. SeaWings use ocean life and water words (Tsunami, Coral, Turtle, Riptide); IceWings use cold and arctic animals (Winter, Hailstorm, Lynx, Narwhal); SkyWings use fire, birds and the colour red (Peril, Kestrel, Vermilion, Cliff); SandWings use desert plants, animals and weather (Thorn, Qibli, Sirocco, Jerboa); MudWings use earth and wetland words (Clay, Umber, Reed, Marsh); RainWings use rainforest creatures and plants (Glory, Kinkajou, Jambu, Mangrove); and NightWings use compound names built from night, stars and a verb or role (Starflight, Deathbringer, Moonwatcher, Fatespeaker). Pantalan tribes add butterflies and silk (Blue, Luna, Swordtail), wasps and insects (Cricket, Hornet, Bumblebee) and trees and plants (Sundew, Willow, Hazel).

Hybrids are named by whoever raises them, so canon hybrid names usually follow one tribe's rules with a wink at the other. Sunny, a SandWing/NightWing, has a SandWing sun name; Darkstalker and Whiteout, both NightWing/IceWing, have NightWing compounds where Whiteout's is a blizzard word; Typhoon, a SeaWing/IceWing, is a storm shared by both; Peacemaker, a NightWing/RainWing, has a NightWing-style compound name of peaceful intent. The cleverest hybrid names sit in the overlap between the two pools: Sleet or Floe for Sea and Ice, Silt or Delta for Mud and Sea, Ember or Sundog for Sky and Sand, a heron or kingfisher for Mud and Sea, a compound such as Emberwatcher or Tidewatcher when one parent is a NightWing.
