Universe Name Generator

A universe name has to do a strange job: label everything at once. Fiction has settled on a few ways to do it. Comics and multiverse stories use designations, a label plus a number or letter that implies a catalogue of other realities (Earth-616, Reality C-137, Universe 7, Continuum Theta-9). Myth and religion reach for the primordial: the Worldtree, Ginnungagap, the Egg of Ptah, Ain Soph, Apeiron, names that describe the cosmos as a body, a womb or a breath. Space opera and fantasy prefer a proper noun that sounds like a place (Aetheria, Kessarine, Meridia Prime) or a descriptive title that tells you the mood of the whole setting: The Hollow Infinity, The Long Quiet, The Ashen Cycle.

Pick the convention that matches who is speaking. Scientists and multiversal bureaucracies number things; priests and poets give them titles; the people who live inside a universe usually just call it the world, which is why names like Worldweave, the Overworld and Mundus feel native. If your story moves between universes, give each a designation for the travelers and a local name for the residents, and let the gap between the two do some characterisation.
