Cosmic names borrow their power from the night sky, and the best of them come from real astronomy rather than invented sci-fi syllables. Star names like Vega, Altair, Rigel, and Antares are mostly Arabic, Greek, and Latin in origin, which is why they sound ancient and grand at the same time. Constellation and moon names (Lyra, Carina, Callisto, Titania) come from Greek myth and Shakespeare, giving them a mythic ring; and technical terms like Quasar, Perihelion, Syzygy, and Singularity carry a cold, precise beauty that suits AI characters, cosmic entities, and tech brands.

A good cosmic name usually does one of three things. It names a real object (Sirius, Europa, Betelgeuse), which gives instant recognition and a built-in backstory. It uses a sky-word from Latin or Greek (Stella, Caelum, Aether, Nyx) that sounds like a name without being obviously astronomical. Or it compounds evocative roots into something new (Starforge, Voidwarden, Astralune), which works well for gods, superheroes, and space-opera factions but should be used sparingly so the invented names do not blur together.

The list mixes all three, alongside star catalog designations like Wolf 359 and Tau Ceti for hard sci-fi settings, and dwarf planets and moons that most people have never heard used as names.
