Templar Name Generator

A Knight Templar did not have a surname in the modern sense. He was a given name plus the place he came from, joined by a particle in his own language: Hugues de Payens, Gérard de Ridefort, Brian de Jay, Gualdim Pais, Dietrich von Hohenfels. The given names came from the small Frankish and Norman pool of the 12th and 13th centuries, so Guillaume, Hugues, Geoffroi, Raoul, Renaud, Thibaut, Baudouin, Amaury and Foulques appear again and again in the Order's rolls, and the place was usually a castle, village or lordship in Champagne, Burgundy, Poitou, the Languedoc, Normandy or England, where the Temple held its richest estates.

Inside the Order a knight was simply Brother (Frère) followed by his name, and rank came from office rather than birth: Grand Master, Seneschal, Marshal, Commander, Preceptor, Draper, Turcopolier. Sergeant-brothers of non-noble birth and chaplain-brothers used the same forms. Brothers serving in Outremer were often identified by their posting, Brother Osric of Tortosa or of Acre.

The list below mixes the real Grand Masters and documented Templars with original names that follow those rules, plus a handful of fantasy templars and a few well-known Templars from Assassin's Creed for players who arrive from that direction.
