Black Templar Name Generator

The Black Templars are the crusading sons of Rogal Dorn, founded by Sigismund, the first Emperor's Champion, and their names reflect it. Games Workshop consistently draws Templar names from medieval Germanic and crusader stock: Helbrecht, Grimaldus, Tankred, Bayard, Ludoldus, Amalrich, Efried, Ricard. Expect hard consonants, names ending in -rich, -bert, -hard, -mund and -wald, and the occasional Latinised churchman's name such as Ludoldus or Sigenandus. Old-fashioned Teutonic names (Dietrich, Wolfram, Konrad, Ottokar) fit perfectly, as do Norman-French crusader names like Bayard and Godfrey.

Rank is part of the identity. A Templar begins as a Neophyte serving an Initiate, becomes a Battle-Brother, may be elevated to Sword Brother, and can lead as a Castellan or Marshal. The High Marshal commands the entire Chapter and the Emperor's Champion is chosen anew before each crusade. Chaplains and Reclusiarchs like Grimaldus wield huge influence in a Chapter this devout. Templars almost never use surnames; the name is the Marshal's household, the crusade and the Emperor.

A convincing Black Templar name should sound like it could be carved on a crusader's tomb. This generator combines canonical characters with new names built to the same medieval-Germanic conventions.
