Reptilian aliens occupy a specific corner of science fiction: the lizard-people of conspiracy lore, the Visitors of V, Star Trek's Gorn, Doctor Who's Silurians, the Draconians of 1970s pulp and the shapeshifting overlords of modern internet myth. Their names have converged on a recognizable sound. Writers reach for sibilants (ss, sz, th, z) to suggest a forked tongue, hard velars (k, kh, x, q) for bite, and doubled consonants or apostrophes to imply hisses, clicks and glottal stops that a human mouth can only approximate. The other half of the convention is social. Reptilians are almost always written as egg-laying, caste-bound and dynastic, so their names carry clutch, brood and hatching markers the way human names carry surnames: Szaress of Clutch Vorrakh, Dorruth of the Deep Hatching. Rulers take cold titles such as Hierarch, Broodmother, Clutchfather and Dominar, and elders earn epithets like Third-Lidded or Who Waits Beneath.
