Argonian Name Generator

Argonians of Black Marsh use two very different kinds of names, and both are canon in The Elder Scrolls. The first is a native Jel name: short, sibilant words full of doubled vowels, x, z and k sounds, often split with a hyphen. Skyrim's Keerava, Derkeethus, Madesi and Jaree-Ra, Oblivion's Ocheeva and Teinaava, and Morrowind's Am-Shakti and Beem-Ja all follow this pattern. Jel names are usually two or three syllables and rarely have a family name, since Argonians identify by hatching pool and tribe rather than lineage.

The second style is the translated name. Jel does not map neatly to Cyrodilic, so many Argonians who live among humans and elves are known by a literal rendering of their name, always written with hyphens: Scouts-Many-Marshes, Talks-Too-Much, Lifts-Her-Tail, Hides-His-Eyes, Skink-in-Trees-Shade. These names describe a habit, a physical trait (Two-Blades, Sharp-Teeth) or a deed. Since the Hist trees are central to Argonian identity, names referencing sap and roots (Speaks-For-The-Hist, Born-Under-Roots) suit shamans and priests. Argonians also sometimes take names in the culture they were raised in, and slaves in Morrowind often had Dunmer-given names, which is why the occasional non-Jel name appears in the games.

Mixing the two styles is a good approach for a single character. Give your Skyrim or ESO Argonian a Jel name for formal use and a hyphenated nickname the locals actually use, the way Sky-Above-Water and Watches-Over-Rivers do in ESO.
