Lizardman names come in a few recognizable dialects depending on which fantasy tradition you are drawing from. In Dungeons & Dragons, lizardfolk speak Draconic, so their names are short, guttural, and packed with hard consonants and unusual clusters: Achuak, Kepesk, Throden, Vutha. Names rarely run past three syllables, and there is no strong difference between male and female forms. Because lizardfolk are famously practical and unsentimental, many also earn descriptive names from other races, such as Sharpclaw or Egg-Warden, based on what they do rather than who their parents were.

The second dialect is the hissing tribal style popular in games and fan fiction, where sibilants (ss, th, z) and a mid-name apostrophe give the name a forked-tongue sound: Sss'rath, Ssar'goth, Zisska. The third is the Mesoamerican flavor of Warhammer's Lizardmen, whose Saurus, Skinks, and Slann carry Nahuatl- and Maya-inspired names like Kroq-Gar, Tehenhauin, and Tiktaq'to, often hyphenated and full of X, Q, TZ, and K sounds.

A good lizardman name should be pronounceable at the table but still feel cold-blooded and alien. Pick the dialect that matches your setting first, then choose a name whose length matches the character's rank: short punchy names for common warriors, longer temple-style names for shamans and priest-kings.
