Random Robot Name Generator

Robot names fall into a few recognisable families, and mixing them is what makes a random list useful. The oldest is the model designation: a short letter block, a hyphen and a number, in the tradition of R2-D2, T-800 and RX-78. Real robotics follows the same pattern – Boston Dynamics ships Atlas, Spot and Stretch, but their internal builds are numbered revisions – so names like TX-9, MK-IV and Unit 117 read as plausible engineering.

The second family is the acronym or function name, where the letters spell out (or nearly spell out) what the machine does: WALL-E, HELPR, SCRUB-E, GUARD-R. It is a favourite of screenwriters and product designers alike because it tells the audience the robot's job in one glance. Third is the human or nickname style used for companion robots and comic relief – Rosie, Bender, Baymax, Codsworth – often drawn from old-fashioned first names, workshop words like Sprocket and Rivet, or the sounds a machine makes: Beep, Clank, Whirr.

Combat and industrial units usually get heavy nouns (Juggernaut, Bastion, Hunter-Killer) or NATO-alphabet callsigns (Delta-Six, Zulu-Seven). Household and service bots lean toward job titles like Butler-9, Porter and Concierge, and hard sci-fi authors like electronic component names – Diode, Capacitor, Actuator – for a grounded, technical feel. Pick the family that fits the robot's role first, then the name inside it.
