Mech Name Generator

Mech names fall into a few well-established traditions. Western wargames like BattleTech and MechWarrior use a single evocative English word for the chassis, usually a predator, a weapon or a threat: Atlas, Marauder, Timber Wolf, Hunchback. Each variant then gets a technical code (Atlas AS7-D, Warhammer WHM-6R) that reads like a real military designation. Japanese mecha anime does the reverse: the model number is prominent and the name follows, as in RX-78-2 Gundam, MS-06 Zaku II or VF-1 Valkyrie, and names lean on Norse, Greek, Japanese and biblical mythology.

A third convention is the pilot-christened machine. Aces in Armored Core, Titanfall and Front Mission give their frames personal names such as White Glint, Nineball or Old Ironsides, and these often follow nose-art logic: a woman's name, a threat, a joke or a piece of luck. Titanfall's Vanguard-class titans (Ion, Scorch, Northstar) show that a mech name can be as short as a single elemental word if the class system does the rest.

The list above gives you all of these: bare chassis names, full designations, anime-style codes, mythic weapon names and personalised warframes. Mix them, since a lance of Ballista BLS-2K mechs might contain one that its pilot calls Bad Penny.
