Real mountain names fall into a handful of patterns, and the most convincing invented ones follow them. Many are simply "Mount" plus a surname or a saint (Mount Rainier, Mount Kenya, Mount Whitney), because European surveyors named peaks after patrons, sponsors and colleagues. Others describe the rock or its shape: the Matterhorn is literally "meadow peak", Ben Nevis is "venomous mountain" in Gaelic, and countless peaks are called Blackhorn, Whitefang or Needle for obvious visual reasons. A third group carries local nicknames with personality, like the Old Man of Storr, the Devil's Thumb or the Sleeping Giant, and these are often the most memorable names on any map.

This generator mixes those three registers on purpose. You will find formal survey-style names (Mount Carrow, Mount Ellsworth), descriptive compound names (Stormcairn, Wolftooth Spire, Copperfell) and colloquial landmark names (The Bishop's Mitre, The Weeping Rock). Suffixes such as -fell, -crag, -horn, -cairn and -spire come from actual British, Norse and Alpine usage, so the names read as weathered rather than manufactured.

When naming a peak for a fantasy world or novel, think about who named it. A peak near a farming valley gets a homely name; a peak on a frontier gets a surveyor's name; a peak that kills climbers gets a grim one. Matching the name to the people who would have coined it is what makes a mountain feel like it has been there for a thousand years.
