Lake Name Generator

Real lake names fall into a few families, and once you know them your invented lakes stop sounding like perfume brands. The largest group is indigenous or ancestral: Winnipesaukee, Memphremagog, Okanagan and Titicaca are Abenaki, Salish and Quechua words, and their long, rhythmic syllables are what make a North American map feel authentic.
