Python Name Generator

Python keepers name their snakes a little differently from other pet owners, and the morph list is the biggest influence. A ball python is very often called by its genetics — Banana, Pastel, Mojave, Piebald, Clown, Enchi, Lesser, Butter — or by a morph nickname like Lucy for a blue-eyed leucistic or Cinny for a cinnamon. The habit carries over: carpet python keepers use subspecies names such as Jungle, Coastal, Diamond and Bredli, green tree python fans name animals after localities like Aru, Biak, Sorong and Manokwari, and blood pythons become Ruby, Garnet, Merlot or Brick.

Geography is the second big source. Ball pythons (royal pythons) come from West Africa, so Egyptian and Ghanaian names such as Cleo, Osiris, Sahara, Kofi, Ama and Zuri suit them; reticulated and Burmese pythons are Southeast Asian, giving you Bali, Sumatra, Mekong, Raja and Rani; carpet, olive and woma pythons are Australian, so Matilda, Bindi, Uluru and Boomer fit. Then come the jokes nobody resists — Monty, Brian, Spam, the Knights who say Ni — and programming puns like Django, Pandas and Pip.

Big constrictors tend to get big names (Titan, Goliath, Kong, Big Bertha), small ball pythons get noodle and food names (Danger Noodle, Pretzel, Nugget), and mythological serpents like Apep, Wadjet, Jormungandr and Shesha suit any python with a regal attitude.
