Every Pokemon region gets one villainous team, and almost all of them follow the same template: the word 'Team' plus a single punchy noun that hints at the gang's goal. Team Rocket is a crime syndicate named for ambition and reach, Team Aqua and Team Magma are named for the sea and land they want to expand, Team Galactic wants a new universe, Team Plasma preaches liberation with a name that sounds scientific, Team Flare wants a beautiful world, and Team Skull and Team Yell are punk-flavored names for gangs that are more nuisance than menace. Later games broke the pattern with corporate fronts like the Aether Foundation and Macro Cosmos, and spin-offs added Cipher, Team Snagem and Team Dim Sun.

The list above mixes those canon names with hundreds of originals built the same way: cosmic words (Nova, Quasar, Eclipse), geology and weather (Tectonic, Maelstrom, Permafrost), abstract ideals (Verity, Dominion, Ascension), and punk or criminal slang (Ruckus, Racket, Heist). There are also foundation, syndicate, brigade and single-word organization names for a fan region that needs something beyond 'Team'.

Match the name to the team's motive: a team draining the oceans should not be Team Blossom, and a scientific cult usually sounds better as an Order or Institute than as a gang.
