Team Name Generator

Almost every good team name fits one of four buckets. There is the classic mascot style (Iron Wolves, Thunder Hawks, Granite Falcons) that real sports clubs use: a strong adjective or material plus an animal or force of nature. There is the pun, which dominates rec leagues, pub quizzes and office competitions (Scared Hitless, Les Quizerables, Spreadsheet Warriors). There is the abstract single word or two-word concept that esports and corporate teams favor (Velocity, Rogue Wave, Event Horizon). And there is the self-deprecating or anti-name (Team Name Pending, Mediocre at Best) for when everyone else is trying too hard.

Where the name will be read should decide the bucket. A name announced over a PA system or printed on a jersey needs to be short and punchy. A trivia or softball team name is read aloud by a host once a week, so it can afford a longer joke. A work or hackathon team name should be clean enough for a slide deck and ideally nod to the project.
