Pokemon OC Name Generator

A Pokemon OC name has to pass one test: could this person plausibly show up as a gym leader, rival or professor in the next game? Canon trainers are named after plants (Erika, Iris, Juniper, Sycamore), gems and colors (Ruby, Sapphire, Cynthia from a Greek word for moon-goddess, Cerulean-adjacent names), and weather or nature (Misty, Brock, Skyla, Nessa). Villain bosses reach for something grander (Giovanni, Ghetsis, Lysandre, Lusamine). Recent games add regional texture: Galar names sound British (Hop, Bede, Marnie, Piers), Alola names are Hawaiian (Hau, Kiawe, Lana), Kalos names are French (Serena, Sycamore, Valerie).

The list above is organized along those lines. The first block is plants, birds, gems, colors and weather in the classic Game Freak style. After that come Japanese names (Touya and Touko are the Japanese names for Hilbert and Hilda; Kotone is Lyra), French, Hawaiian, British and Spanish names for Kalos, Alola, Galar and Paldea OCs, and finally a set of grander, slightly old-fashioned names suited to champions, Elite Four members and Team bosses.

Most trainers go by a single name, so a surname is optional. When you add one, keep it short and thematic (Ivy Blackwood, Zinnia Reyes) rather than a full realistic legal name.
