Pokemon from all 18 types, from Fire and Water to Fairy and Steel, so you can grab a type-themed nickname, build a monotype team, or study how each type's names sound.

About Pokemon type names

Every Pokemon has one or two of 18 types, and the type shapes the name as much as the design does. Fire types carry heat words (Charizard, Infernape, Cinderace), Water types get flow words (Gyarados, Feraligatr, Primarina), Ghosts get spooky suffixes (Gengar, Mismagius, Chandelure), and Steel types sound like metal on metal (Aggron, Aegislash, Kingambit). Reading the names with their types in mind is the quickest way to hear those patterns and to remember which Pokemon belong where.

The list covers all 18 types: Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Psychic, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Fairy, Flying, Poison, Rock, Ground, Bug, Ghost and Normal. It mixes classic Kanto and Johto icons with fan-favorite Pokemon from later generations, including standouts like Baxcalibur, Kingambit and Tinkaton from Paldea. The page shows the names from A to Z rather than in type blocks, so look up a Pokemon's types before you build a team around it.

Use it for monotype challenge runs, gym leader teams in fan games, quick nickname inspiration, or as a study sheet for the design language of each type before naming your own fakemon.

How to choose Pokemon type names

  • Building a monotype team? Pick from a single type but vary the secondary types so one weakness doesn't wipe the whole party.
  • For a fan-game gym leader, choose five or six from one type and give the leader a name that matches (Cinder for Fire, Marina for Water).
  • Study the sound patterns before naming a fakemon: -don and -tor endings skew Rock and Ground, -eon endings are Eeveelutions, and soft double vowels lean Fairy.
  • Dual-typed Pokemon like Gyarados or Scizor can anchor two different themed teams; note both types before you commit.
  • Nickname a Pokemon after another member of its type (a Vaporeon called Milotic, an Arcanine called Entei) for a subtle in-joke.

Frequently asked questions

How many Pokemon types are there?

Eighteen: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Psychic, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Dragon, Dark, Steel and Fairy. Dark and Steel were added in Gen II and Fairy in Gen VI.

Are these names sorted by type?

No. The page lists the names from A to Z, and the generator draws from every type at once. The picks span all 18 types: Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Fighting, Psychic, Dragon, Dark, Steel, Fairy, Flying, Poison, Rock, Ground, Bug, Ghost and Normal.

Where are dual-type Pokemon listed?

The list does not label types. A dual-type Pokemon such as Charizard (Fire and Flying), Gyarados (Water and Flying) or Scizor (Bug and Steel) can anchor a team for either of its types.

Can I use this for a monotype challenge?

Absolutely. Every type has enough options here for a full team, and mixing generations lets you find viable picks for whichever game you're playing.
