Pokemon Fan Game Name Generator
Version titles for fan games and ROM hacks
Generate titles for a fan-made Pokemon game or ROM hack in the series convention: single version words like Amethyst and Tempest, paired releases like Aurora and Umbra, epithets like Verdant Tide, and subtitle forms like Legends: Hollow Coast.
About Pokemon fan game names
Official Pokemon titles follow a simple grammar: the series name plus a version word. The early games used colors (Red and Blue), then metals and gemstones (Gold and Silver, Ruby and Sapphire), and later paired ideas such as Sun and Moon or Sword and Shield. Fan games and ROM hacks kept the habit and added their own twists: an adjective in front of the word, as in Radical Red, or a single word from outside the color and gem tradition, as in Uranium and Unbound.
Every entry here is the version name alone, so put Pokemon in front when you use it: Pokemon Verdant Tide, Pokemon Legends: Hollow Coast. Paired releases are written as one entry, such as Aurora and Umbra or Ember and Frost. The 1,000 entries cover gemstones, metals, colors, sky and weather words, myth words, two-word epithets, coined compounds like Emberwake, subtitle forms and the adjective-first style of the hack scene.
Forty-two entries carry a label in parentheses because they are official versions or existing fan projects, and they are there for reference only. The absence of a label says nothing about whether a title is already in use. Thousands of hacks exist, and a plain gemstone, color or sky word is very likely some project's title already, so search before you settle on one.
How to choose Pokemon fan game names
- Put Pokemon in front and say it out loud. Pokemon Starfall and Pokemon Ashen Crown read like box titles, while a long phrase such as Night of a Thousand Lanterns works better as a subtitle after a colon.
- For a two-version project, pick a pair that tells players what differs between the two. Ember and Frost suggests different climates or legendaries; Dawn and Dusk suggests a time-of-day split.
- Search the title in the fan game and ROM hack communities before you commit. Plain words such as gemstones and colors are often in use already, and sharing a title with an older project makes yours harder to find.
- Match the word to your region and story. A coastal region suits Tidecaller or Coral Dawn; a mountain region suits Granite or Frostline.
- Leave official version names and the names of other game series alone. An original word is easier to search for and will not be mistaken for an official release.
Frequently asked questions
Why do the names leave out the word Pokemon?
Every title would start with the same word, so the list gives the version name alone. Put Pokemon in front when you use it: Garnet becomes Pokemon Garnet, and Legends: Ember Shrine becomes Pokemon Legends: Ember Shrine. An entry joined by and, such as Zenith and Nadir, is a paired release of two versions.
Which entries are official games or existing fan games?
Forty-two of them, and each one says so in parentheses, for example Emerald (official version), Uranium (existing fan game) and Radical Red (existing ROM hack). They are style references, not suggestions. An entry without a label is no promise that nobody uses the title: many plain words are already the name of a hack somewhere, so search first.
How do the official Pokemon games choose version names?
Mainline games usually ship as a pair with matching words: colors at first, then metals and gemstones, then paired ideas such as Sun and Moon or Sword and Shield. A third version or a remake adds a new word or a prefix, as in Platinum or HeartGold. The Legends games use a subtitle after a colon instead.
Is this generator connected to Nintendo or The Pokemon Company?
No. This is a fan resource with no connection to Nintendo, Game Freak or The Pokemon Company, who own the Pokemon name and games. The list only suggests words for the title of a project of your own.
